My Eau by TUSHY's making unusual noisesUpdated 2 hours ago

Your Eau Smart Toilet will make some sounds during normal operation: the flush, the nozzle extending, the self-diagnostic cycle on startup. But some noises signal something worth investigating. Here's a guide to what you might be hearing and what it means.

Sounds That Are Completely Normal

Don't panic — these are expected:

  • Startup sequence: When you first plug in the Eau, it runs a self-diagnostic cycle. The lights turn on, the nozzle briefly extends, and water runs through the system. This is normal and completes in a few seconds.
  • Pulsing or sputtering at max pressure: At pressure setting 5, the Eau uses an internal air pump to boost spray strength — this creates a pulsing sound. Totally normal. Drop to setting 4 for a quieter stream.
  • UV sterilization hum: A faint hum approximately 10 seconds after each use is the UV sterilization light activating. It stays on for about 3 minutes. The button light around the UV will glow faint purple.
  • Nozzle movement sounds: A soft whir when the nozzle extends, retracts, or adjusts position is normal mechanical operation.
  • Auto deodorizer: A quiet fan-like hum while you're seated (and for up to 3 minutes after) is the auto deodorizer running. Expected.
  • The dryer, temperature and water pressure beeps when changing settings.

Loud Banging or Hammering in the Pipes

A loud banging sound coming from the walls or pipes when the toilet flushes or the bidet activates is called water hammering. This is caused by a sudden stop in water flow creating a pressure shockwave in your plumbing.

🚨 Warning: If you hear loud banging in your pipes, stop using the toilet immediately and consult a licensed plumber before continuing. Continuing to use the toilet with water hammering may damage your plumbing and can void your warranty.

What to do:

  1. Stop using the toilet.
  2. Turn off the water supply valve.
  3. Contact a licensed plumber to diagnose and address the water hammer before resuming use.
  4. If you need additional guidance, message our team.

Continuous Running Water Sound

If you hear water running continuously — even when the toilet isn't being used — this usually points to one of the following:

  • A fill valve issue: The toilet tank may not be filling correctly and is running to compensate.
  • A slow leak: Water may be draining past a seal somewhere in the system.
  • A kinked or partially blocked hose: Restricted flow can sometimes cause audible water movement.

Fix:

  1. Turn off the water supply valve and check all hose connections and the area around the toilet base for any signs of water.
  2. If you see water at the base, the wax ring seal may need to be inspected — contact us.
  3. If hoses appear kinked, straighten them and turn the water back on to test.
  4. If the running sound persists with no visible leak, contact our team for further diagnosis.

Clicking or Beeping Sounds

The Eau communicates through beeps — these are intentional feedback signals, not error sounds:

  • 1 beep: A feature has been turned ON (e.g., auto Cloud Spray, auto lid, eco mode).
  • 2 beeps: A feature has been turned OFF.
  • 2 beeps on startup or after plugging in: Normal self-check behavior.

If you're hearing unfamiliar beeping patterns not related to button presses, check the digital display on the seat for any error codes and refer to the error code list in the Eau Isn't Flushing article, or contact our team.

Grinding or Straining Sound During Flush or Wash

An unusual grinding or straining noise during operation could indicate:

  • A clogged filter: Sediment buildup in the T-Adapter can make the system work harder.
    • See: How to Replace the Water Filter.
  • Low incoming water pressure: The system may be straining to pull water. Use a lower pressure setting and consult a plumber about your home's water pressure.
  • A foreign object: Something may have entered the system. Do not attempt to open the internal components — contact our team.

Noise After a Wash Cycle Ends

A brief draining or gurgling sound as the wash cycle ends is normal — the system is clearing residual water from the nozzle area. This should last only a few seconds.

When to Contact Us

Reach out if:

  • You hear banging in the pipes (stop use immediately)
  • There is a continuous running water sound with no explanation
  • Noises are accompanied by error codes on the display
  • Any noise is sudden, loud, or new and you can't identify the source

Contact our Poo-Ru team, and we'll figure out the next steps together.
