How the Eau by TUSHY's UV sterilization cycle worksUpdated 2 hours ago
Your Eau Smart Toilet includes a built-in UV sterilization feature that automatically sanitizes the bowl after every use: no sprays, no scrubbing, no thinking about it. Here's exactly what it does, when it runs, and what to expect.
What Is UV Sterilization?
UV (ultraviolet) sterilization uses short-wavelength UV light to neutralize bacteria and other microorganisms on the surface of the bowl. The Eau's UV light activates automatically after each use, working quietly to keep your bowl clean between washes.
💦Note: UV sterilization is a supplementary hygiene feature and it works alongside regular cleaning, not instead of it. We still recommend wiping down the bowl with a mild cleanser as you would with any toilet.
How It Works
The UV sterilization cycle is fully automatic. Here's the sequence:
- You finish using the toilet and stand up.
- 10 seconds after you leave the seat, the UV sterilization cycle activates on its own.
- The cycle runs for 3 minutes, then switches off automatically.
No button press needed — the seat sensor detects when you've left and triggers the cycle for you.
How to Tell It's Running
When UV sterilization is active, the light around the UV button on the remote glows faint purple. This is the only visual indicator, the cycle is otherwise silent.
If you don't notice the purple glow, that's fine too. The 3-minute cycle is brief and easy to miss if you've already left the bathroom.
Is It Safe?
Yes. The UV light is contained within the bowl area and is designed to be safe during normal use. The 10-second delay after you leave the seat ensures the cycle never activates while you're seated.
⚠️ Caution: Do not look directly into the bowl while the UV light is active. Although the light is low-intensity, direct prolonged exposure to UV light is not recommended.
Does It Replace Regular Cleaning?
UV sterilization targets surface bacteria, but it works best as part of a regular cleaning routine. For full cleaning guidance, keep these in mind:
- Wipe down the bowl, seat, and exterior surfaces regularly with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser applied to a cloth first.
- Avoid spraying cleanser directly onto the Eau's digital display.
- Strong cleaning solutions (like those used on regular toilets) are fine on the ceramic bowl portion.
- Avoid bleach or bleach-based products on the water hoses as these can cause cracking and leaks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I turn UV sterilization off?
The UV cycle runs automatically and cannot be manually toggled on or off via the remote. It activates only when the seat sensor detects that you've left — it will never run while anyone is seated.
What if the purple glow doesn't appear after use?
If you consistently don't see the UV indicator light after use, confirm the toilet is fully powered on (display lit on the seat) and that you're leaving the seat completely — partial contact can sometimes keep the sensor active. If the light never appears, contact our team and we'll take a look.
Does the UV light clean the nozzle too?
No. Nozzle cleaning is handled separately. Use the Clean Nozzle button on the remote to run an automatic nozzle self-cleaning cycle, or hold the Dryer Temperature button for 5 seconds to extend the nozzle manually for a gentle brush clean.
